The capital of New Jersey is Trenton. Once part of the New Netherland colony, which included both present day New York and New Jersey, first owned by the Dutch, then the English. New Jersey is known for its industrial diversity. The state’s largest industry is chemical manufacturing, but it also produces pharmaceuticals, instruments, machinery, electrical goods, and apparel. There are several large oil refineries in the northern part of the state New Jersey is also one of the leading research centers in the world. Despite all of its industrialism, it is home to over one million acres of farmland and agricultural land that produce garden vegetables, cranberries, blueberries, peaches, poultry, dairy products and seafood.
