The capital of Virginia is Richmond. The state is known as "The Mother of Presidents," as eight US presidents have been Virginian natives. It is also known for its colonial history, agriculture and politics. Virginia is the site of the first colonies including Jamestown and Williamsburg. To this day agriculture remains an important sector of Virginia. The state ranks among the top ten in tobacco, tomatoes, peanuts, apples, summer potatoes, sweet potatoes, snap beans and turkeys and broilers. As it borders Washington, D. C. northeastern Virginia serves as a commuter community to the nation's capital, as well as home to federal agencies such as the CIA and Department of Defense headquarters.
