About: Richmond, Indiana

In the early 1800s, during a period of westward migration after the American Revolution, several Quaker families from North Carolina settled along the East Fork of the Whitewater River. Today Richmond still remains home to several Quaker institutions, including Friends United Meeting, Earlham College and the Earlham School of Religion. The city is sometimes known as "the cradle of jazz," because several early jazz records were made in Richmond at Gennett Records Studio, a division of the Starr Piano Company.

    <![CDATA[Merilynn Wright RICHMOND, Ind. - Merilynn Wright, age 89, of Richmond, died Tuesday, September 16, 2014, at Friends Fellowship Community. Born December 23, 1924, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Richard and Alice Freiburghaus Stuckmeyer, Merilynn lived most of her life in this area. She was a graduate of McKinley High School in St. Louis, Missouri. Merilynn was a member of Central United Methodist Church for over 50 years and the AU Chapter of P.E.O. She had been a volunteer at Golden Rule Nursing Home for 20 years and in the flower and gift shop at Friends Fellowship Community. Merilynn enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family and friends. Survivors include her husband, James Estil Wright Sr. to whom she was married on September 21, 1946; sons, James Estil (Cindy) Wright Jr. of Portland, Indiana, Richard W. (Suzy) Wright of Camby, Indiana, and Mike Wright of Indianapolis, Indiana; grandchildren, Jamie, Joe, Jason, Brian, Kristi, Jeremy, and Rocky Wright; six great-grandchildren; cousins; and many friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Stuckmeyer and Alice Stuckmeyer Harness. A memorial service will be held at Friends Fellowship Community, 2030 Chester Blvd., Richmond on Sunday, September 21, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Shelley Dodson officiating. There will be a private graveside service to be held at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Earlham Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to: Friends Fellowship Community, Development Department, 2030 Chester Boulevard, Richmond, IN 47374 or Brownsville United Methodist Church, 1220 Treaty Line Road, Liberty, IN 47353. Condolences may be sent to the family via the guest book at www.doanmillsfuneralhome.com.
