  • Senators get reprieve for SC helicopter station

    South Carolina's U.S. senators say the Coast Guard will delay the planned closing of a helicopter rescue station near Charleston. The station had been set to close Nov. 30. But U.S. Sens. Lindsey Graham and Tim Scott said Friday they have assurances from the Coast Guard commandant that the station on Johns Island will remain open until at least Dec. 15. The senators said that will give them time after the election recess to work with other lawmakers to find a way to keep the station open.
