About: Castro Valley, California

Castro Valley is located in central California. The city was named in honor of Don Guillermo Castro, a rancher and a soldier in the Mexican army. Castro was given a land grant that consisted of 28,000 acres. Because he had a gambling habit, he ended up having to sell off portions of the land in order to pay off some of his gambling debts.
