About: Danville, Illinois

Founded in 1827 Danville was made up of eighty donated acres. The city was named for Dan Beckwith who donated twenty of those acres.     Almost three weeks after local Republicans called for the firing of Danville Election Commission Director Barbara Dreher for counting absentee ballots early, she has decided to retire. Dreher said Monday that she was planning to retire next year or the year after, but the election commission board members decided they couldn't support her any more.

    Mayor Scott Eisenhauer and former Vermilion County board Chairman Jim McMahon both filed paperwork Monday in the Danville Election Commission office to run for mayor next year. It was a four-way race in April 2011, but Eisenhauer and McMahon were the front-runners with Eisenhauer winning by 490 votes over second-place McMahon.
