About: Danville, Illinois

Founded in 1827 Danville was made up of eighty donated acres. The city was named for Dan Beckwith who donated twenty of those acres. It became a large coal mining area in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Today the city has seventeen parks including a full dog park called FETCH, and the Danville Village Mall. Both Gene Hackman and Dick Van Dyke are from Danville.
