About: Hampton, Georgia
Hampton, established in 1873, is named for Brigadier General Wade Hampton, who was an American soldier in the Revolutionary War and the War of 1812. It was once known as Bear Creek, or Bear Creek Station. This 100 year old train depot is listed in the National Registry of Historic Places. It has been designated as a "Tree City," and a "Bird Sanctuary." Hampton is also home to the Atlanta Motor Speedway, which despite its name is not actually in Atlanta.
