  • Doug Robinson: The high cost of coaches
    Saturday, April 18, 2015 10:14:03 PM

What about paying the big money to the people who are really important? What about paying the people we all depend on, the people who hold our nation's hopes and dreams on their clipboards? Who needs those guys? Can they recognize a zone blitz? A Cover 2 man under? Do they know how to slow-play the read option? There are no such mixed-up priorities in Ohio, where Urban Meyer was recently awarded a contract extension that will pay him an average of $6.5 million for six years, making him the state's Highest Paid Public Employee . That could have paid a lot of salaries for public school teachers, but everybody knows teachers already make plenty of money and don't really contribute to society as much as coaches.
