About: Madison, Alabama

Madison, originally known as Madison Station, was founded in 1869. The city was formed by the addition of a stop along a railroad. On May 17, 1864, a Civil War battle known as "The Affair at Madison Station" was fought on Madison soil. Ten miles from Huntsville, Madison prides itself on high quality schools, a quaint downtown, and festivals such as the annual Madison Street Festival in the fall. The nonprofit organization, which is focused on powering Huntsville with 100-percent clean, efficient energy by 2025, has invited anyone interested or involved in the clean energy sector to its "Clean Energy Drinks" event from 5-7 p.m. April 9 at Rocket Republic Brewing in Madison.

  • Judge in Madison police assault case says trial remains April 29

    There was some confusion last week concerning the trial date for Eric Parker, as his attorney moved for a postponement that was not needed. The trial remains set for April 29. Parker, a Madison Police officer, was charged with misdemeanor assault and arrested by his fellow officers for the takedown and injury of Sureshbhai Patel, an Indian citizen, during a sidewalk stop on the morning of Feb. 6. Madison police subsequently chose to fire Parker.
