About: Malden, Massachusetts
Malden is located in eastern Massachusetts. It was settled by Puritans in the early 1640s, who purchased the land from the Pawtucket Indians. Malden is located on a hilly woodland area north of the Mystic River, and was originally called "Mistick Side" in honor of the river. The city was named after Maldon, England by Joseph Hills, an early settler and landholder. Hills later compiled the first code of enacted laws printed in New England in 1648.
