Malden is located in eastern Massachusetts. It was settled by Puritans in the early 1640s, who purchased the land from the Pawtucket Indians. Malden is located on a hilly woodland area north of the Mystic River, and was originally called "Mistick Side" in honor of the river.     A 35-year-old Somerville man lost his pants - but kept his cool - at the Davis MBTA station during the morning commute yesterday, in the T's latest escalator mishap. T rider Greg Murphy, who witnessed the aftermath, told the Herald he was on his way to work when he and dozens of other commuters happened across the bare-legged man and a disabled escalator at about 8:30 a.m. "I saw two MBTA workers at the bottom of the stairs, a guy wearing some fashionable blue gym shorts, and some pants at the bottom of the stairs that looked like they had been sucked in," Murphy said.
