    State regulators have scheduled public hearings next month on a request by Met-Ed to raise $152 million by hiking customers' electricity bills nearly 18 percent. The hearings are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Nov. 17 at East Stroudsburg University's Innovation Center Room 336, and 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Nov. 18 at the Inn at Reading, 1040 N. Park Road, Reading.

    A Berks County man suffered minor injuries Tuesday evening when his car crashed into the rear of a disabled manure spreader, police said. Mark A. Schneider, 58, of Barto, hit the manure spreader, which was attached to a tractor, about 6:40 p.m. on Huffs Church Road in Hereford Township, state police at Reading said.

    The state Public Utility Commission has changed the date for two public hearings in Reading about FirstEnergy Corp.'s request to raise electric rates for Met-Ed and its other Pennsylvania subsidiaries. The hearings have been changed to Nov. 18 at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. They had previously been scheduled for Nov. 4. The location remains the same -- the Inn at Reading, 1040 North Park Road in Reading.
