About: Rome, Georgia

Rome is located in northwestern Georgia in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. The name of the city was a commemoration of the famous Rome, Italy. The Georgian city was built on seven hills with a river running between them, which reminded early settlers to name the community in honor of the Italian city. In 1929 Benito Mussolini dedicated a replica of the statue of Romulus and Remus nursing from a mother wolf, a symbol of the original Rome.
