    SAN DIEGO Â- A new Veteran Resource Center has opened inside the San Diego Central Library in downtown. It's phone number is 619-236-5822. The center was made possible through a partnership between the California Department of Veteran Affairs, or CalVet, and the California State Library. The grand opening in San Diego brings to 18 the number of grant-funded "Veterans Connect @ the Library" locations in California, according to CalVet. Future resource centers are planned for Chico, Lancaster, Oakland, Sacramento-Central, and Tulare.

The baby, who had been born premature, cried throughout many of the videos, according to court records. Lutts faces a minimum of 35 years in prison and a maximum of 80 when sentenced April 20.

    A hot air balloon landed in the street in Sorrento Valley, California, on Thursday after it was seen flying low overhead and clipping a tree. Several people called police at 5:30 p.m. after spotting the balloon flying low over Mira Mesa Boulevard, officers said. San Diego police officers responded to the area to perform traffic control. The balloon landed at Lusk Boulevard and Barnes Canyon Road. It wasn't immediately clear what led to the emergency landing. No word on any injuries. This is a breaking news story.

    SAN DIEGO - A new high-rise in downtown San Diego is reaching new heights when it comes to clean energy. "We're going to reduce our natural gas burn here, we're going to reduce the amount of energy we take off the grid. That's going to help on carbon emissions as well as air quality right here in downtown San Diego," Jim Backman said. The high-rise also has more than 100 solar thermal collectors that generate about half of the building's hot water needs throughout the year.
