    The levees along Walnut Creek near Concord and Pacheco need serious maintenance to fix erosion and damage by animals and remove unnecessary culverts, fences and other encroachments, according to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. A corps spokesman said this week that inspections done in January 2013 resulted in a maintenance rating of "unacceptable," citing 171 problems that could threaten the safety and integrity of the levees along Walnut Creek from Concord Boulevard north to Waterfront Road; along Grayson Creek from Pacheco Boulevard northeast to its entry into Walnut Creek; and along the Clayton Valley Drain, from Hillcrest Park to Walnut Creek.
