About: Westminster, Colorado

In 1891, construction began on Westminster Castle, which was supposed to be used as a university that was presumed to become the "Princeton of the West." The Westminster Castle, also known as "The Big Red Castle" or "The Pillar of Fire," is now a historic landmark important to the Westminster community. The town was renamed Westminster after the university when it was incorporated in 1911.
