    City officials in Brockton say they want the state Gaming Commission to move quickly to evaluate competing resort casino proposals in Brockton, New Bedford and Somerset, and to award a license without further delay. In a letter to the commission on Tuesday, Brockton Mayor Bill Carpenter expressed "serious concern" that a license in Southeastern Massachusetts "may not be awarded at all."

    A Brockton man was indicted for murder and several other charges by a Plymouth County grand jury Thursday, officials said. Michael Starks, 25, was indicted for the Oct. 5 murder of 34-year-old Helmae Zewdu, Plymouth District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said in a statement Friday.
