The state was once primarily agricultural, but is now home to several large mills that produce goods such as textiles, wood, pulp, steel products, chemicals, and machinery. The state ranks third in the production of peaches in the US, fourth in the cultivation of tobacco. South Carolina also produces agricultural products including nursery and greenhouse products, watermelons, peanuts, broilers and turkeys, and cattle.
