Located south of Sacramento and north of Modesto, Stockton hosts an annual Asparagus Festival and has been home to Haggin Museum since 1931. Recently, from about 1995-2005, Stockton experienced an influx of new residents who sought to get away from the higher cost of living from the San Francisco Bay area. As a result, Stockton's housing prices increased and subsequently suffered a dramatic drop when the bubble burst in 2007.

  • The underwhelming hyacinth campaign
    Thursday, October 23, 2014 10:34:09 PM

From his waterfront window, Chamber CEO Douglass Wilhoit sends this picture of the mighty state armada attacking the water hyacinth that is choking Stockton waterways. For obvious reasons, the state dislikes the term "eradication" campaign, preferring to call it a "control" campaign.

  • Color my (fall) world
    Thursday, October 23, 2014 2:33:48 PM

  • Kashkari dips toes in Stockton waters
    Thursday, October 23, 2014 10:40:24 AM

Local Republicans were happy that the man at the top of the party ticket came to Stockton to campaign, a stop that could help build up some excitement in the final weeks of the election as the focus turns to getting supporters to actually vote. And San Joaquin County was a good place to find fellow critics of Gov. Jerry Brown's plans for the Delta, including the building of the so-called Twin Tunnels that would bypass river water around the estuary to export pumps. “It doesn't sound to me like it's been thought through well enough,” Kashkari said on the bridge of the Kennon Doyle, a homemade riverboat that plowed the Delta waters past the Port of Stockton and patches of hyacinth.
